It is especially popular with men and women who have an excessive amount of fat and loose skin on their buttocks which they have been unable to eradicate using conventional diets and exercise. Additionally, women who have lost their skin elasticity on the buttocks as a result of perhaps pregnancy or big alterations in their weight will often undergo the procedure.

A buttock lift is classified as major surgery and, as such, will usually be carried out under a general anesthetic and require some time in hospital. It is possible in some cases for the patient to have an epidural injection and remain awake during the operation.

Before undertaking buttock lift surgery, you should discuss your expectations of the process with your surgeon and have the entire procedure explained to you in detail. Your surgeon will want to know your complete medical history and will inform you of the aftercare necessary and all the possible, if unlikely, complications that could arise. Some patients combine buttock lift surgery with cosmetic buttock implants, and this might be something you want to discuss at your preliminary consultation.

The operation itself will typically take around two hours to complete. The standard procedure is for the surgeon to make an oval-shaped incision in the crease at the base of the buttock. A surplus section of fat and skin can then be taken out and the skin closed. This leaves quite a large scar but, as this is concealed in the natural crease of the buttock, it is not generally visible. A newer type of buttock lift surgery employing the Threadlift procedure, which results in significantly less scarring, is particularly successful with younger patients, who have more elastic skin.

After a buttock lift, dressings will be put into place along with firm elastic bandages to support the area. It will be necessary to wear a support garment continuously for at least a week and then for a further length of time during the periods you are awake. It is common for a temporary tube to be put into the wound for a day in order to drain excess fluid and blood from the buttocks.

The area operated on will be tender, swollen and painful for perhaps several weeks after the surgery. Conventional painkillers can be taken during this period. It is common to return to work following buttock lift surgery after two weeks but vigorous exercise should be avoided for at least a further month. Any sutures that are not self-dissolving will be taken out within ten to fourteen days of the procedure.

Buttock lift surgery is normally carried out without any significant complications but, as with any major surgery, there will always be risks associated with it. These will be explained fully by your surgeon prior to your operation, and you will be given information as to what signs to look out for.

In the United Kingdom you can expect to pay from around £3,700 to £5,200 for this procedure. In the USA, the average surgeon’s fees for buttock lift surgery are $4,000 although you will then need to add on additional fees to cover anesthesia, the clinical facility’s costs, medicines and dressings and administration charges. You should anticipate an extra amount of at least $1,000.
