When searching the web sites for information, few clinics actually give you much concrete idea what the costs of their procedures will amount to.
This is not just because they are being deliberately evasive!
In actual fact, liposuction costs will vary considerably because there are several types of liposuction, various liposuction procedures, different percentages of fat to be removed and so on.
Liposuction is a means by which localized deposits of fat are removed to enable areas of the body to be ‘re-contoured’. A narrow tube is inserted in an incision that then vacuums the fat layer underneath the skin. This layer is then broken up and suctioned out by means of a large syringe or a vacuum pump. Liposuction can be carried out on the arms, breasts, buttocks, chin and cheeks, neck and back, abdomen, hips, thighs, knees and ankles. There is, however, a limit to the amount of fat which can be removed from an area safely.
Clearly, liposuction costs for some parts of the body will be more expensive than for others. In the USA, for example, the cost of treating the arms will range from between $1,500 and $5,000 whereas for the upper abdomen the variation is between $3,000 and $7,500.
In addition, there are variations in cost between the plastic surgeons themselves as well as from region to region. More affluent areas tend to reflect that in their prices, as do areas which are regarded as medically prestigious. Prospective patients have to avoid choosing a clinic for liposuction based solely on the address!
In general, liposuction costs tend to be higher for men than for women. As there is a larger percentage of fibrous fat found in men than women, the operations will usually take longer, resulting in a male ‘price supplement’. Similarly, the actual physical size of the patient is important – if a larger amount of fat is being eliminated from the body, then a higher price is going to be charged.
As is the case with all cosmetic surgery, when you are given some idea of estimated liposuction costs, try to make certain that you receive all the required information. Clinics sometimes simply give an estimate based on the surgeon’s fee for his work – missing out on the fee for the anesthesiologist, the clinic or operating room, administration fees and so on. These ‘add-ons’ will generally be around $1,000.
Another factor to bear in mind is that many clinics will offer a reduction in fees of liposuction procedures if more than one is carried out at the same time. This is an option often worth investigating.
Bearing all these variables in mind, the national average cost for a liposuction operation in the USA amounts to $2,578 for the surgery alone; in Britain the average total cost is £2,700 for one individual area.

One of the great concerns about people contemplating liposuction procedure is what the actual liposuction costs will eventually turn out to be.
